Volunteer Handyperson Opportunity

1 August 2018 & Onwards, 9am - 6pm

The purpose of this role is to help maintain the functionality and upkeep of Hornsey Lane Care Home. You will provide basic maintenance in communal areas and may be required to provide basic household maintenance within residence rooms under the supervision of care home staff.

This could include:

  • Assessing the task and completing it safely or referring it on where appropriate
  • Carrying out basic maintenance tasks such as replacing lightbulbs, putting up shelves, moving pieces of heavy furniture
  • Fixing leaky pipes, door handles or locks
  • Reporting maintenance and building issues that require specialist skills/qualifications/personnel


How to access and any other requirements

Skills/ Experience

  • Enthusiastic and friendly with a talent for DIY
  • Happy to engage with a variety of individuals from various backgrounds and nationalities
  • Demonstrates patience and understanding
  • Commitment to the equality and diversity
  • Able to use tools and equipment safely and efficiently
  • A good awareness of working health and safety issues and commitment to safety of self and others
  • Reliable and regular volunteer
  • Previous experience working within trades/multi skilled environment is desirable however not essential
  • CSCS card desirable however not essential

Confidentiality and Boundaries

  • Treat customers with dignity and respect
  • Do not make any unofficial, unreported contact with residents / customers
  • Do not carry out paid or unpaid private work or provide services on a personal basis (or vice versa).
  • Do not borrow from or loan money/items to residents / customers.
  • Do not be critical of each other or of staff members to residents / customers or other parties
