Business in the Community – Ready for Work

Ready for Work, Business in the Community’s flagship employment programme, supports some of society’s most disadvantaged people to enter employment, with business involvement every step of the way.

150 businesses in 16 locations support Ready for Work participants through training, work placements and their progress into employment. In return, businesses benefit from cost-effective recruitment opportunities, stronger links with the local community and personal and professional development for employee volunteers.

How to access and any other requirements

To be eligible for the programme, clients will have experienced multiple barriers to work within the past 2 years, putting them at risk of homelessness. These barriers include:

  • Current accommodation insecure / falling in to arrears
  • Previous experience of homelessness (rough sleeping/sofa surfing /hostel)
  • Previous experience of prison
  • Unspent convictions
  • Ex-military personnel
  • Long-term unemployment (12 months or more)
  • Age 50+
  • Care leavers
  • Substance misuse (alcohol and / or drugs)
  • Domestic violence
  • Disability (including health, mental health and learning disabilities)
  • Refugees or former asylum seekers who have a right to work in the UK
  • Problem debt e.g. rent arrears, outstanding payment loans
